  1. Hi
I live in the UK and just watched a shocking documentary about the “Jena 6″ case. I just wanted to write to say that it is beyond belief to me that people could be treated so disgustingly by their own neighbours and legal system in a “civilised” country in 2007! I hope that justice will prevail and that these young men’s names will be cleared as soon as possible. Clearly, the town of Jena has other problems that will take much longer to resolve.
    Best wishes
    Eliza

  2. Hi there

I watched the same documentary as Eliza and was really uspet by the way people are being treated in Jena. I just wanted to offer support and hope that the small minded few will not have a life long effect on these young mens future

  3. I am a lawyer from Manchester, England. I too watched the programmes yesterday about the situation in Jena and I was appauled. This incident confirms the view that institutional racism exists in all organizations and structures within all societies. It is clear that the six young men will not receive a fair trial in Jena.

It is also astounding that the District Attorney obvious bias is going unchecked.

I work for a Trade Union firm and if any help or support is required I am confident that they would be happy to assist. If this is required please do not hesitate to contact me.

In the meantime I hope that justice prevails and that good will win out.

  4. Hello,

I watched the documentary about the Jena 6 last night and was outraged at the DA’s decision to upgrade the charges and the shocking treatment of the juveniles concerned both by the Judge and by the Public Defender. I am training to be a Lawyer here in the UK and in the next couple of weeks I hope to begin my American Bar qualification in order to qualify as an American lawyer. If I can be of any assistance, my email address is supplied.

  8. Hello Everyone

As a black young man living in Alexandria, Louisiana, I have had some of the worst things said and done to me by caucasin (white) young man, but through it all, i held my head up and pressed my way through it. I am only 20 yrs old and this situation that has happen in Jena has really effect the way ,I look at life. My heart goes out to this 6 young men and their family’s but remember this one thing that in the Word Of GOD
1Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

2Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.

3My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

4For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.

5The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

6Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

7But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

8Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

9For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

10Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.

And I well continue to pray for them.

  13. I hear stories like this and it makes me utterly ashamed to be white. I promise to forward this story to my friends list and urge them to write letters.

  14. I’ll be driving from Austin, TX to Jena, LA and am happy to provide transportation for 2-3 others that would like to make the trip. It was recommended due to lack of hotels/housing and lodging that we make arrangements to stay overnight in Alexandra, LA. I’ll be leaving on 7/30 and returning to Austin on 8/1. I can be reached at george at alonovo dot com.

  15. Now here’s an interesting sidenote…… In the email I received last week from my church headquarters’ Justice Action office, the URL for the LA branch of the ACLU was included as a source for further information. Guess what. I was all over their site and found no mention of Jena!, Even did a search on “Jena” in the Search box of their site and this message came back: “your search on JENA did not match any documents.”

    What in the ?@?!@?#!!!!!?!?!!!!!

  16. Hi Alan
I first heard of the story of the Jena 6 while watching BET, and they had a newsbrief where they quickly told the viewers about the situation of the Jena 6. The newsbrief lasted all of 2 minutes and after a tear fell to my eye , I immediatley began looking on the internet for different websites that had previously reported on this story so that I could get more information. I am saddened to say that there are few websites that have reported in depth as you have. I not only appreciate this website but also value the content that it holds. I have began to spread the word among co-workers, friends, families and anybody else who has 2 minutes to hear that it is 2007 and Jim Crow Laws are STILL in full affect. The same way it did not take long for the white kids of that high school to hang those nooses, is the same way it wont take long for those nooses to actually hold bodies and swing in the wind as they did during slavery and the civil rights movement. From the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul where my ancestors memories live; I THANK YOU!!!!!!
If you happen to stumble upon this comment, and there is anything I can do, other than make a donation to your cause, I encourage you to let me know. Thank you.

    Peace,Love and Justice

  17. It’s is a Monday night and my mother called me and told me about the Jena 6. She asked me to get on the computer and read about it and send letters to whoever will listen and whovever can make a difference. Usually I would say I do it in the morning but something made me get up and get on the computer tonight. I am a mother of 3 beautiful young men. Who are in college and my youngest is a senior in high school and if my young men were in this situation I would hope that people would do the same for my children. It is funny sometimes I talked to my children about racism and they looked at me like I am speaking another language. It is ashame that things like this have to happen for people to realize racism is alive and as a race we need to stick together. My prayers are with the families and if there is anything that I can do in my city. I would be proud to help .

    Love, Michele Culclasure Coatesville, PA

  18. I heard about the Jena 6 on Monday, August 20. I am appalled to know that the courts are still doing the things that they so widely did in the fifties and sixties and expect to get by with it. Black America says no! America says no! “TRUE JUSTICE WILL BE SOUGHT AND OBTAINED”

  19. I know there are thousands of people who would like to show their support for freeing the Jena 6. Unfortunately, hardly anyone has heard of this horrible injustice, and many of the people who have, do not have the financial means to contribute large amounts of money to help the cause. The heartbreaking picture should be put on shirts, along with your website, and sold for 25 to 40 dollars each with all proceeds going to the defense of the Jena 6. People will question what this is about, and the word will spread much faster. Just a suggestion.

  20. Mr. Beam,

It was a pleasure speaking with you yesterday in regard to the Jena 6 trial. Appears that you and I share an interest that reaches beyond this specific case; however, I firmly believe Jena maybe a good place to start a common peace. Fathers for the Future would love to assist you with being ambassadors to this peaceful process.

I look forward to our follow-up conversation. Also, please visit our newsletter at http://www.anewwaymedia.com. We focus on issues relevant to the hiphop generation. And the Jena 6 trial could be one of the most pertinent cases since the Rodney King Trial.

Thank you for bringing attention to this important matter.

  21. Why has nothing has changed in Jena, Louisiana

    THE WHITE TREE

Poem by Leilani Stevenson written to honor the Jena 6

Once again the ground calls for the blood of our dead ancestors to rise up and give voice.
In Jena they hang their nooses and whisper threatening curses
    once thought silenced by reform.
They stagnate the air with polluted threats backed up by Jim Crow.
No amount of stagnation will silence our voice.
They don’t know the length, breadth, and width of this generation’s strength.
Centuries of struggle have shaped our resolve.
    We cannot be moved.
We too, have a tree and it’s branches are extended wide.
Our tree is planted by the water.
No noose around our necks will choke out the voices
of numerous ancestors who cry along with us from beyond their graves.
They cry for freedom and justice.
They cry for you and me.
    They will be heard.

    Free the Jena 6

    Poets Note:
Because the Bible teaches that we are all one through Jesus Christ , (Galatians 3:28) I embrace my brothers and sisters who are African American. I join their struggle as though we are one.

I have been emailing and sending bulletins to all my friends to pray and get involved. http://www.myspace.com/2ufromleilani or contact me at Intergraceusa@aol.com

  23. It breaks my heart to hear of this the situation that these young men are going through. I too am the mother of a young african american male and the greatest gift that anyone can offer him as well as the young brothers is to keep them up in prayer! Remember GOD has the last word ! No weapon formed against you shall prosper. These people are too ignorant to realize that the things that they do will come back to them. It may not be throught them but do they realize that they too have children, parents, and siblings? The LORD say “Vengence is Mine” My heart goes out to the mothers of these young men. I do not have much to offer but I do know that prayer is a powerful thing! Just try it you will see! it has worked for me oh, so many times.

    God Bless You

  24. I am sickened and saddened by this story. I swear I sometimes think we all live in our own bubble. I had never heard this of this story before seeing the link on rosie.com It sound like a story from yhr 50’s! Have we made no progress? There is actually a barber shop that won’t serve african americans, and this is legal??? I don’t understand. I feel for this boy and his family. I pray justice will be served. If the media would get involved the way they should instead of chasing actors down the street maybe our world would change. It’s all about distraction. It’s truly a disgrace. This country needs to wake up! i

  25. Bring the Jena 6 home, with their records clean, and cut the damn tree down! In 2007 we should not still be hearing of these outrageous and immoral acts against our fellow Americans, and those that perpetrate the actions should be held fully accountable and punishable. If the tree is only for whites, than the tree should be removed. Jena is a part of the USA, and receives federal funding for their existence as a part of the country. If the local government doesn’t comply with our federal laws of fairness and equality, they must accept the consequences of their actions. And it’s sad to know that they would not be changing their ways if this situation wasn’t getting national attention.

Keep the faith, a new day is coming. Blessings to all the family and friends of the Jena 6! You’re on the right side of the law and the Lord, and we pray your justice is served.

  26. It’s alarming how national news media is not bringing this story to the forefront. You heard how the prosecution process was going everyday for the Michael Vick controversy because of his unjust actions perpetrated on some dogs, isn’t the civil rights of human beings valued more than that?—–oh no I forgot this is America and we are talking about black lives—–we need to take a stand, each and every one of us, stop perpetrating violence to ourselves, this is what they want us to do……do as the Lord commanded us to do and Love One Another…..at the end of the day, all we have is each other

  27. Jena 6 is no surprise to me I was telling my co workers that the 21th century has been a ruff start for my black people from katrina to Don Imus. They have not been showing us no love it’s like they are throwing it in our face how much they don’t care for us.But yet we stand still thinking everything is all good until something of this magnitude happens, and then everybody wants to come together. We should already know the odds are against us and each day it pains me to see our people forgetting about the past. Instead of waiting for events like this to wake us up let’s stand together as a people everyday show them that our power is greater than theirs. Great kings and queens of eygyt past and present. Believe it our heritage is much longer then any other race in this world read your bible the first testament is all about us. We help built this country and yet they still treat us like shit.

  28. My prayers go out to the Jena 6, their families and all families of African Americans in this day and time. I live in Detroit, Michigan and eventhough the NAACP had their Convention here about a month ago and had their symbolic funeral to bury the “N” word, these actions speak loudr thanany word ever could. We as a Black people need to stop waiting until something like this happens to rise up together. We need to stop “talking about it” and “be about it”. This racial injustice is happening every day “somewhere” and we need to keep on fighting and doing something about it. Here in Detroit I have failed to see anything about this on any of our local radio stations. Why? But I am constantly bombarded day in and day out about this couple over the waters somewhere whose daughter is missing. (White) I heard about the Jena 6 for the first time on the Mix 92.3 radio station that I listen to in the morning, Steve Harvey Morning Show on my way to work and that same station in the evening with Michael Baisden. An I applaud these brothers.
I went online and found out more and more information about it then. I signed the petition and contacted my family and friends as well.
Once again, hold on to your Faith and know that all over this country prayers and support are with you Jena

  29. This is the shizzle!!!! You MFs are really turning this into the country we have hoped for. I have a dream, that I can leagaly shoot any racist whitey for looking at me cross-eyed.
We shouldn’t kill them though, we need them to keep working and paying the taxes that provide food stamps and welfare checks. Speaking of which, I have lots of time on my hands and am able so let me know if I can help too.

Sweeeeet Jesus, I love America. Let it be!!!!

  30. I am outraged at what is taking place in Jena. I am the white mother of two bi-racial sons & I am scared of what is happening in this country. It is a sad fact that I have cautioned my boys from a very young age to be careful – because they wil suffer worse consequences for anything they do than any white children will. They have always known that the white community considers them to be black. I have taught them to embrace their black heratige & be proud of who they are. I watched the documentary & am outraged & disgusted that people are saying this isn’t racism. WAKE UP – THIS IS RACISM – PLAIN – BOLD FACED RACISM! How sad that in this day & age of awareness that this still goes on. I am physically sickened by this. Are people really allowed to put nuces in trees & have no reprecussions? Shame on those people in Jena who refuse to deal with something this horrible!
